Puritans

I was asked to illustrate someone who challenges conventional views of Puritans, for Who Do You Think You Are magazine. In Roger Lowe’s diary from 1663, he talks of his love for girls, lively society and ale. He is superstitious - claiming to see signs in the splashes of mud he kicks up in a country lane - and is, as Alan Crosby points out, much more “lad about town” than “humourless killjoy”.
